The Planning Commission is comprised of nine (9) members who are recommended by the Mayor and appointed by the City Commission. Members of the Planning Commission serve three (3) year terms. The Planning Commission annually appoint a member to serve as a Chairperson, and a member to serve as Vice-Chairperson.
The Planning Commission reviews development petitions, both residential and commercial, as regulated by the city's zoning ordinance. The Planning Commission may also make recommendation to the City Commission on proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance. The Planning Commission reviews and makes a recommendation to the City Commission on the Master Plan for the City of Bloomfield Hills in accordance with state law.
Planning Commission meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month in the City Commission Room at City Hall, all meetings of the planning commission are public meetings.
In order to be considered for the agenda, a petitioner must submit a complete electronic set of plans and application to City Hall by emailing the building staff. In addition, the application fee and escrow fund must be paid at the time the application is submitted. Placement on the agenda of the Planning Commission is at the discretion of the City Manager.
