Security Review of Your Home or Business

The Public Safety Department is excited to offer Security Assessment’s to our residents and businesses, as a part of our continued commitment to their safety and improved quality of life.  We recently trained and certified Public Safety Officer Steve Splan to offer this service with the idea of identifying areas of your home or business that could be improved from a security perspective. Items such as alarm systems, environmental design, outdoor lighting, and reinforcement options are typical areas of concern. Improving these areas of your home or business can make it less desirable for potential criminal activity. The assessment typically lasts 30 minutes and is a great way to learn about your property and consider options to improve upon it. Shortly after your on-site assessment, you will receive a detailed report that includes recommendations in how to improve security at your residence or business. The report is confidential and will not be shared with anyone except the requesting homeowner.
Officer Splan has been with the department for 11-years and is a Certified Security Assessment Specialists.  Steve is continuing his training in this field and is on track to be a State of Michigan Certified Crime Prevention Specialists by the summer of 2017.  Please contact Officer Splan at 248-644-4200 to set up your free Security Assessment appointment.

2016 Road Improvement Project Set to Begin

The City of Bloomfield Hills 2016 Road Improvement Program along Manorwood Drive, Chestnut Drive, Renton Court, and Woodwind Drive east of Manorwood Drive is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 1st.  Construction crews will be on-site providing layout stakes for the contractor, marking utilities, mobilizing traffic control signage, and installing soil erosion control measures. Construction is anticipated to be complete by the end of September, with restoration to follow closely thereafter.

Manorwood Drive, Chestnut Drive, Renton Court, and Woodwind Drive east of Manorwood Drive will be closed to through traffic during construction.  Local traffic will be maintained one way from Woodward Ave. west/north toward Chestnut Drive/Woodwind Drive, but progress may be slow at times as temporary road closures will need to occur for short durations while the Contractor performs the work and mobilizes equipment.  Please try and limit your trips during normal working hours and seek alternate routes avoiding the areas under construction whenever possible.

The City is planning on providing frequent e-mail updates to notify residents about the status and progress of the project to all residents that are interested in participating in this form of communication.  The City is requesting that any residents that would like to be informed by e-mail about the status of the project and to be provided with updates, to contact Melissa Coatta at Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Inc. Melissa can be reached at: (248)454-6567 or by e-mail at: mcoatta@hrc-eng.com

Property Taxes

The 2016 summer property tax bills were mailed and should have arrived at your home or business.  If you did not receive a bill, please feel free to call our office at 248-530-1401 so we can mail you another bill.  Just a reminder taxes are due by the due date of August 31st without penalty.  By state law, not receiving a tax bill does not exempt the taxpayer from paying on time, and therefore the City does not waive late fees.   As a convenience we provide a payment drop box.  Please note we have a new drop box and it is located on the left-side of the building at the entrance to the City Hall.
If you need tax information we have a link on our website where you can find current payment information as well as payment history.  The link can be found at www.bloomfieldhillsmi.net on the left hand side of the Treasury department page under Property Tax Lookup.  As always, we happy to answer any questions property owners have by calling our office.
