Citizen Alert Using Codespear
The Bloomfield Hills Department of Public Safety encourages
you to join our new “Citizen Alert” program. Codespear is a
Smart Message system that facilitates communications on a
wide variety of personal devices. The Public Safety
Department takes the safety of our residents very seriously
and wants to take every possible measure to provide advanced
warning should a major event occur. Please follow the
instructions below.
Visit to the Citizen Alert website by
clicking here.
If you are a first time user, click
on the “Sign-Up Now” button in the lower left hand corner of
the page. You will be asked to pick a unique user name,
pass-word and validate your address. After accepting the
agreement your user account will be created. When you login to Codespear you will see your control panel
with four sections you can modify:
- Device Manager - This is where you will enter additional
phone numbers and email address to receive alerts on.
- Alert Manager - By default you are subscribed
to Public Safety, this is a mandatory alert. However additional alert
categories such as road closure, severe weather warnings
etc. may be added in the future.
- Profile Editor - This is where you can modify your
username, password, email address and street address should
you move to a different home in the city.
- Subscription Details - You can use this feature to opt out
of all notifications if you want to temporarily suspend your
alerts.
We ask that families create one account per household and
put each individual’s device(s) in that one account.
If you have trouble accessing the system please email
codespear@bloomfieldhillsmi.net or contact
(248) 644-4200. We
will be happy to assist you on the phone, by having an
officer stop by your home or in person at our station.
